Gosainkunda Lake (4,300m) in the Syabru VDC on the southern soples of Jugal Himal ,is a mini t rek itself and can be done in about 9 days. It is a sacred lake both for Hindus and Buddhists and is said to have had its origin when Lord Shiva swallowed poison to save the world. It is belived he pierced the earth with his trishul (trident) from where a fountain of water sprang forming a lake where the burning Shiva jumped to soothe the burning in his throat.
Dunche is the starting points and the Sundarijal is ending point. The trek goes the steeply farmland and with the Himalayan panorama. On the way we will encounter the rhododendron conifers bamboos oaks and the pines to Sing Gompa and the holy lake of Gosainkund lake. The Mytholgy says that once the Lord Shiva drank the servere poison and boozed up came and rest in the kund.
Janai Purnima is the festival where the Hindus come to bathe where the more over the 20000 Hindus come on worship. This place is considered to be holy both for the Hindus and the Buddhist. It is the sacred Buddhist in the chanirel with thousands of cairns. Now the trek follows passing Laurninayak and follows the way to Helambu valley, Tharepati, Kutumsang, Chisopani to Kathmandu.
The trek is short but it offers you the memorable and unforgettable glance of the majestic mountain of the Gosainkund Trek.It is not only a trekking place but also a pilgrimage. This is the home of Tibetaian and Tamang people.
