The Lower Dolpa circuit trek is one of most popular treks as it passed through Phoksundo Lake ,featured in Enric valli’s Oscar nominated movie “Caravan”. Phoksundo, also known as the Blue Lake, cuts one of the deepest gorges in Nepal.It is the rare trekking spot the district of Dolpo, the trekkers visit some times only but it offers a wonderful experience and the culture different from other part of the country.
Climbing the Dolpo you have to get the necessary permit. The whole Dolpo is situated in the Shey Phoksundo National Park 400km west of Kathmandu. The riche and diverse area lies west of Kali Gndaki valley behind the Dhaulagiri massif on the mid western of NEpal. It is opened for the foreigners in 1989 which is the area of rare animals like snow leopard, mast, deer and the rare blue sheep. Lower Dolpo is the least strenuous trek but is not easy trek. The main highlights of the Lower trek is the flat uppervalley with the number of interesting village resident of magar and guung origin. Number of Buddhist and bon temples can be fined on the way.
It is possible to visit Phoksundo Lake on a week trek, 15days is, however, feasible and more satisfying.
